Syngas fermentation is a promising approach for converting industrial waste gases into valuable biochemicals. In this study, we developed iSJ444, the first genome-scale metabolic model for Clostridium luticellarii, a lesser-known but highly promising syngas-fermenting bacterium. Our model predicts how this microbe can convert syngas into valuable short-chain fatty acids, providing insights into its metabolic pathways and potential for industrial applications.
In modern farming, piglets are separated from their mother at an early age. This ‘weaning’ makes the animals vulnerable to all kinds of infectious diseases. It is a known fact that microorganisms play an important role in that process.
With a background in Food Technology and Human Nutrition, it might seem surprising that I found my way into the field of microbiology. My journey began after completing my PhD when I developed a strong interest in the associations between diet, gut microbiome, and health.
